Thai Language

The first time you take a look at the Thai language it looks complicated and difficult to comprehend. There are more than 80 letters in their alphabet and even though they read from left to right there are no spaces between the words! If you thought reading Thai is difficult, wait until you try speaking it! There are five different tones which means unless you "sing" the word exactly right Thai people will think you are saying a completely different word.

On this page we are trying to help explain some of the Thai words and phrases used throughout this web site. Usually a transliteration of the Thai word is used but sometimes I have listed the English translation and not the Thai word when I think it is not necessary. This helps put an interesting perspective on Thai culture. For those people who want to learn more every-day vocabulary then there are some useful links at the bottom of this page.
