Create knowledge in real-time with Your WebAssistant
Run all your projects on a powerful online social platform, called a TeleCommunity
Enrich yourself in a sustainable and socially responsible way
The WebAssistant TeleCommunity platform is a bottom-up information refinery, integrated knowledge management toolkit and web products publishing house, with which various innovative products (WebDesks, WebPresentations, WebWorkspaces,...) can be published in walled or open knowledge exchanges.
A web browser add-on allows users to quickly organize all kinds of digital content into personal databases, that form the basis of various collective intelligence applications found in collaborative research, knowledge centers, and (Tele)Communities of Practice, which may include community blogging.
On this page you find more about:
- Your WebAssistant: an information refinery add-on for your browser; and Your WebDB: a personal web database and Internet publishing platform
- WebPresentations: online slideshows and WebDesks: management dashboards that put the processed information at your fingertips
- the 2 versions of the WebAssistant software: self-hosted or hosted by The WebAssistant Company, and the two types of WebAssistant accounts: Personal Knowledge Management (PKM), and TeleCommunity
- community currencies, our 'enriching' philosophy and our stakeholders
- how you can testride Your WebAssistant today, join our activities and acquire the right software for your needs
1. What is Your WebAssistant? What is Your WebDB?
Your WebAssistant is a unique multifunctional interface that you can add to your browser's toolbar.
It allows you to create and organize links, extract and write texts, upload files - in other words, add all kinds of digital content - to a personal web database, called Your WebDB.
Based on our 'store once, use in many ways'-philosophy, you can then search, contextualize and re-contextualize the content of your WebDB in all kinds of products and processes, such as: to do-lists, slide shows, websites, WebDesks (management dashboards), blogs and more. You can choose to publish all or part of these products for easy sharing and flexible collaboration with others.
In summary: Your WebAssistant is the front end to a comprehensive toolkit with which you can enjoy an enriching digital lifestyle.
2. What is a WebPresentation? What is a WebDesk?
Based on the items that you collect in your WebDB, you can create various products and processes, from to do-lists to favourites lists that you may want to share with others.
You can also combine WebDB items in WebPresentations - a sort of online slideshows - with applications ranging from sales support and eTraining to sharing your travel pix.
You can quickly combine hundreds of WebDB-items into WebDesks. Why be happy with one desk if you can easily switch between many virtual desks, organized per theme? Set up your own News Desk, Research Desks, Project Desks in which you collaborate with others,... and stop losing time searching for information.
3. What are the 2 versions of the WebAssistant software? What types of accounts can I open?
We offer our software on CD for use on Windows, Linux and Mac servers. It consists of compiled middleware with an integrated MySQL database - today's leading open source database. Or you can start using Your WebAssistant today, by opening an account in the WebAssistant TeleCommunity:
PKM-account: this account is for personal use and helps you to get organized with Your WebAssistant and Your WebDB. You can create hundreds of WebDesks, interactive WebSites and Workspaces with many pages and features. You can also publish an RSS-stream from your WebDB.
PKM-accounts are sold per time period of three months and cost 50 $ (40 euro) or equivalent in virtual currency, per month.
TeleCommunity account: this is a seperate TeleCommunity domain for organizations that want their own identity on the web (welcome page, news page,...) internal (guaranteed spam free) e-mail, up to 300 PKM-accounts and web forums,...
The WebAssistant Company can set up a TeleCommunity account as a hosted service - this means that you can work with your content on our servers or assist you in setting up the software on your own server(s).
To purchase the software for installation on your own servers, please contact info@webassistant.com.
4. What are community currencies? What is your underlying philosophy?
The knowledge economy is about creating and trading intangible products and processes. The WebAssistant TeleCommunity software allows you to create, manage and trade these products and processes in informal and formal markets for knowledge and other culture products. As a producer and publisher of intangibles, you have the opportunity to enrich yourself by creating these WebProducts, but also by receiving a reward for them, either in the form of real money or a virtual currency.
In informal TeleCommunities this virtual currency can consist of reputation credits such as karma, or credits that can be traded in for specific benefits.
In formal TeleCommunities this virtual currency works more like an exchange trading system, that helps stimulate informal economies in meaningful and enriching ways when real money is scarce.
The WebAssistant Company is a spin-off of Ecotopia, an international network founded in 1993, that develops levers for a sustainable and enriching society. Other initiatives include The Ecotopia Box, The Enriching Project, and the Global Federation of TeleCommunities.
5. How can I start using the WebAssistant software?
Version 2.1 of the WebAssistant TeleCommunity software has been released. You can request a test account. (please add a short introduction)
